There are no pop-ups of an 'unexpected version' before I load the game and all mods should work together (there could be standard crashes, like loading a cell or running a script, but these usually occur through gameplay). I am on the latest update (1.10.120) and have ensured all mods are compatible/should be working with this version. The issue still persists, and I am no longer able to load any save file created on any version of the game (modded or vanilla) I have tried adjusting and deleting the interface folder, uninstalling all mods and verifying the game cache as well as running from a completely vanilla install. However, I cannot load any save files made through any method.
To clarify, I can open the program, I can start a new game and I can even manually save once in the game. However, when I try to load ANY save, the game fails to do so and instantly CTD's. All I do know is that I can start a new game just fine with any character and play in a single session almost uninterrupted by crashing errors. After extensive testing and searching, I could not find a solution to this issue. I then tried to reload the save, but the save crashed at the point where I would normally have expected the game to finish loading. However, I then died and the game CTD'd shortly after. I managed to create a test character and play for upwards of two hours and did not experience any crashing.
So I followed the modding guide below (linked) to the letter and everything seemed to be fine.
